This is my first product review on my blog, and I thought I would start with one of the most important pieces of gear that I own, my hiking boots. I got these boots about two years ago after going on a backpacking trek to the Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho. I realized I had a limited supply of gear and was especially lacking in quality hiking boots.

I went to the local REI and picked out an awesome set of boots that are still going strong today! The Merrell Moab Mid Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Boots are the ones I took home that day.

When I got to REI, I had an idea for the boot that I wanted, and the sales rep lead me to these Merrell’s. I was looking for a lightweight, soft boot that provided some ankle support, but wasn’t too restrictive. I knew I wouldn’t be backpacking in them all the time, so I wanted something that would be good for day hikes with my dog, but would provide the support I needed when carrying a heavy pack.

These Merrell hiking boots were exactly what I needed and were an excellent step in the right direction for my new found love for hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering. With winter just around the corner, I wanted something that would protect my feet from low level snow on hikes with my dog, and the waterproof gore-tex lining did just that. They kept my feet warm and dry as I regularly trudged through a few inches of snow and watched my dog roll run and play in the winter wonderland.

Merrell hiking bootsThe Vibram sole also gave me the traction I needed when walking up steep, snow-covered hills in the winter, and when boulder hopping up canyons in the summer.

The Merrell website describes these trekking shoes as great for summer spritzers or downpours with the Gore-Tex lining that I talked about earlier.

They provide you with a list of great features that this shoe provides:

These shoes have been an excellent addition to my gear. After 2 years they are still perfect for day hikes and week-long backpacking trips in spring, summer, and fall. I have taken these boots on countless adventures and they have always kept my feet in excellent condition, no matter what conditions I’m in. I would suggest these Merrell’s to anyone looking for an excellent, all-around hiking boot!
